Meeting the world’s highest standard for operational excellence is rare, and it’s even rarer to do it twice. Ipsen’s manufacturing site in Signes first received the Shingo Prize for operational excellence in 2020. Now our Dublin manufacturing site has earned a Shingo Prize, as well, making Ipsen the first pharmaceutical company to receive two Gold Shingo Prizes. Our Wrexham, U.K. manufacturing site currently holds a Shingo Bronze Medallion award.

Created in 1988, the Shingo Prize rewards companies across all sectors that demonstrate a strong culture of operational excellence, deeply rooted in the mindset and behaviors of all staff, management and employees alike.

“It’s exciting to see how the Shingo Model™ can be implemented successfully across different sites, in different countries and cultures,” said Aidan Murphy, EVP Technical Operations. “The Dublin teams incorporated learnings from the Signes site, while also bringing their own perspective and innovations to the table. We’re looking forward to implementing the Shingo Guiding Principles at other Ipsen sites, and continuing our journey of operational excellence.”

The Shingo examination team conducted a rigorous assessment of the Dublin site, including its employees, processes and mindset, which took place in July 2024. But the ambition to receive a Shingo Prize began long before. “The journey to excellence in our manufacturing sites began in 2015, almost a decade ago,” noted Pierrick Lefranc, Senior Vice President, Head of Global Manufacturing Operations. “I’m really proud of the exceptional level of engagement of all the teams on site,” he continued. “The Shingo Model places a strong emphasis on employee engagement: as a result, every employee understands our strategy and how their daily actions impact it. It’s a powerful illustration of our culture of excellence and impact.”

Ipsen’s Dublin manufacturing site houses approximately 190 people and produces the active pharmaceutical ingredients for two of Ipsen’s medicines.
